In a statement issued from London, Head of the JKLF Diplomatic Committee Prof. Zafar Khan has said that recent incidents in Kashmir clearly show India’s intolerant behaviour towards Kashmiris genuine aspirations of a political settlement of Kashmir dispute. He said that indiscriminate firing on peaceful demonstrators will not make Kashmiris retract from their demand of free and fair plebiscite in Kashmir. He further said that such oppressive and cruel measures will not dampen the struggle for right to self determination and national dignity by the masses
Zafar Khan said that the cases of molestation of Kashmiri women in occupied territory have increased considerably in recent times. He called upon the international community to ensure safety and dignity of people of Kashmir, especially in view of the attempted rape of Kashmiri women in Baramulla and subsequent brutal killing of two Kashmiri youth at the hands of India’s occupation forces.

mu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Aman faction, has emphasized the need for revival of Coordination Committee formed in 2008 to make the ongoing struggle organized and more effective. Expressing strong resentment over the arrest and detention of pro-movement leaders and activists, a spokesman of JKLF, in a statement, said such ‘repressive’ steps by the government could not prevent the freedom loving people from continuing their struggle. In a statement, a spokesman of the JKLF said, “The government facilitated the visits of pro-India leaders to Shopain by providing them security while it arrested and house arrested the pro-movement leaders to prevent them from visiting the same place. This speaks volumes of its double standards.”

In a separate statement issued from Trehagm, Kashmir, JKLF Senior Vice Chairman, Sheikh Mohammed Afzal whose movement has been restricted by the occupational forces has also condemned the killing of Nisar Ahmed Mir and rape and molestation of Kashmiri women and the subsequent beating of around 50 women in the Shopian district of Kashmir. Sheikh Afzal said that people are not allowed to hold peaceful demonstrations anywhere. He called on the Indian Government and especially the ruling National Conference of the state to halt the human rights abuse in Kashmir. He reminded the government of their pledge of zero-tolerance on human rights abuse in the state during the recent Indian parliamentary elections

Head of Diplomatic Committee of JKLF Prof. Zafar Khan while addressing joint session of this meeting condemned the Indian Governments track record of human rights in Kashmir. Zafar Khan said that it reflects the institutional conspiracy by Indian government to harass the people. He said that India continuously is not honouring the people’s sentiments in the state. While blaming India for unrest in Kashmir, he said that it is the result of unjust and forcible occupation of state by Indian forces. Zafar Khan reminded the world community that India must not be allowed to keep people of Jammu Kashmir in political servitude with an occupation force of 800,000 military and paramilitary soldiers. In the meanwhile, JKLF diplomatic committee headed by Prof. Zafar Khan will hold a meeting with British foreign office next week to highlight the abuse of Kashmiri women by Indian forces.
Haji Rauf Khan President of JKLF UK Zone has strongly condemned the continued harassment of Kashmir people by the hands of Indian army. He said that last year 1000 unmarked graves were found in Kashmir and Indian Government did not allow any probe into that matter. Haji Rauf demanded an immediate, independent and impartial inquiry into the gross human rights violations in the state. He further said that more than 10,000 people have disappeared in custody of Indian forces in Kashmir and the track record of India in Kashmir has increased the fear of their whereabouts. Rauf Khan said that the international human rights organizations especially Amnesty International and Red Cross should raise this issue and launch an impartial probe. Elaborating his statement, president of JKLF UK Zone said that Kashmiris have suffered enormously over the decades for the complete independence of Kashmir. He said that the sacrifices rendered by the Kashmiri people will soon bear fruit and the struggle will continue till the independence of whole nation is achieved.
All branches gave an update about their activities. President of London Branch Mahmood Faiz produced a detailed report about their activities from October 2007 to January 2008. Naming various events and meetings, he said that JKLF London branch in coordination with Diplomatic Committee met with various British lawmakers Lord to highlight the plight of Kashmiri people.
The meeting was also addressed by Senior JKLF members including, Javed Rashid, Mahmood Faiz, Finance Secretary Mohammad Rafiq, Chief Organiser Ali Asghar, Azram Khan, Mohammad Zafar Jr (Luton), Malik Mushtaq (Slough), Gulfaraz Ahmed (Sheffield), M. Iqbal (Manchester), Talib Husssain (Bedford), Rasib Kashmiri (Peterborough), Mohammad Tahir (Peterborough), Mahmood Hussain, and other delegates which include the local secretaries of the branches across UK.
